Dangerous but Safe #3

This time around, I’m going to tackle something a bit bigger. It’s not a person. It’s not a group, organization or industry. It is a thing but one you can’t see. It’s intangible. It’s the belief in things you cannot see—faith. Faith makes you dangerous. Breaking it down into the DPR’s is a moot point because for each principle, the answer is endless. So, we’re going to discuss how faith is dangerous and how it can be used safely.

The first Bible verse I ever memorized over three decades ago is Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” It’s still my favorite. I used to take it to mean that you can do anything you set your mind to. That was before I read it in context. In Paul’s letters to Philippi, he praises them for being the only ones concerned with his needs while in prison, but he assured them he didn’t need anything because he could “do anything through Christ...” including survive being incarcerated. It’s not the “do anything” part that’s important; it’s the “through Christ” part. Yes, you can do all things... as long as it’s part of God’s plan for you.
Believing you can do anything you set your mind to and calling it faith is not faith in God but faith in yourself. Personally, I’d rather put my trust in the One who laid out my path rather than someone who has no idea what the future holds. Proverbs 16:9 is another favorite. “A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.”
Faith is hard work. If you expect something to happen simply because you have faith that it will, you might be waiting awhile. Faith can move mountains but you’re going to have to be willing to get up off your butt and give them a push. You have to put in the work.
Faithfulness makes you dangerous, but you can only use it safely if you put your faith in God rather than yourself and you are willing to do the work.
Being dangerous means, you can change the world, if only a small part of it. Now, are you going to change it for the worse? Or are you going to wield your faith safely and change it for the better?
Go ahead, have faith, be dangerous. But be safe as well.
